PATIENT NAVIGATION SUPPORT
At PCEC we understand that a prostate cancer diagnosis—or even a high PSA reading or abnormal imaging can be overwhelming for patients and their families. That’s why we offer one-on-one support from our certified Patient Navigator who provide compassionate, personalized guidance through every stage of your prostate health journey.
Our Patient Navigator: Cara Clements
Before joining PCEC, Cara spent over 11 years working for a state-based prostate cancer nonprofit, where she connected with thousands of men and their caregivers to guide them through diagnosis, treatment decisions, surgical side effects, and life after cancer. Known for her approachable and down-to-earth style, Cara isn’t afraid to talk about the tough topics- whether it’s treatment options, side effects, or even Razorback sports! Cara believes that no man should face prostate cancer alone and she encourages men and their loved ones to reach out, ask questions, and feel empowered in their care journey.
What Our Patient Navigator Does
- Explain your diagnosis or test results in clear, meaningful terms—covering PSA trends, biopsy results, imaging findings (like PSMA PET scans), and pathology reports.
- Outline treatment options, from active surveillance and surgery to radiation or newer therapies, helping you weigh risks, benefits, and lifestyle impact.
- Coordinate care by connecting you with urologists, oncologists, radiation therapists, genetic counselors, and support services (social work, nutrition, rehab, mental health).
- Provide emotional support—a steady, understanding advocate to help you and your loved ones cope with stress, anxiety, and big decisions.
- Offer lifestyle and wellness coaching—covering nutrition, exercise, sexual health, and bladder health to help maintain quality of life throughout treatment and beyond.
What Our Patient Navigator Does Not Do
While our Patient Navigators are trained to support and guide you, there are important boundaries to their role:
-
They do not provide medical advice or make diagnoses.
Navigators are not a substitute for your doctor. They will help you understand your options and prepare questions, but medical decisions should always be made in consultation with your healthcare provider. -
They do not replace your clinical team.
Navigators support you through the process, but they do not deliver treatments, prescribe medications, or interpret lab/pathology results in place of a physician. -
They do not share your information without your permission.
Your privacy matters. Conversations with a Patient Navigator are confidential, and your personal health information will not be shared unless you explicitly authorize it. -
They do not pressure you to choose a particular treatment or provider.
Navigators are neutral, unbiased, and focused on helping you make informed choices that align with your values, goals, and lifestyle.
